Cycling Tips
The MOST important thing to focus on is SAFETY!!!! The National Society for Multiple Sclerosis (NMSS) has a wonderful set of ideas and recommendations. Please review these before beginning:
Now, some other points:
The Right Bike
The MS Bike Tour is a long-distance bike ride. It is 150 miles or more on a paved surface. To complete your 2-day journey, it is necessary to have the right equipment. Check with an Official MS Bike Store in your area for bike recommendations.
Being fitted to a bike is just as important to rider comfort as having the right kind of bike. A bike should be appropriately sized for its rider. The saddle, stem, and handlebars should also be properly adjusted. Most Official MS Bike Stores offer free basic bike fittings, so stop by for this service.
Snappy Shoes
For maximum comfort, we suggest using cycling shoes with locking pedals. Cycling shoes have stiff soles to prevent foot flex and fatigue. Special cleats lock into the pedals, which keep the shoes from slipping and increase cycling efficiency. Also, your feet may swell during this long route, so slightly larger cycling shoes will feel great on the second day.
Water Supply
All riders should ensure their bikes have water cages and bottles that fit in them securely. Make sure your water bottle is full at the beginning of all rides, and refill water bottles as needed. Drink plenty of fluids, even if you don't feel thirsty.
